Woven vessels

These pieces have been developed following a residency in Portugal, using the basketry technique learnt from the master of baracejo Isabel Martins.
Traditionally, the technique uses a spontaneous long stem grass and rafia. Throughout this series of works different materials have been combined together in order to test each one’s structural and sensory qualities.
The shapes and the textures have been achieved through the use of stitching and felting, giving a softer and more flexible quality to an object which is usually hard and rigid.
